Hey! Anyone else doing woodwork? :) I've decided to go with Option 3 in HL! The storage unit option! I thought there was actually a good set of options this year! :D

I'm doing my portfolio now, and was wondering if anyone had any info on how big it should be? I want to put in a good effort (and hopefully have it done in good time!) I just want to make sure that I at least do enough! Would like 30+ pages be enough? Obviously I know they need to be of good work, but just wondering what everyone else's portfolio is going to be like? :)

The SEC read boards and have already been in touch regarding exams. I really would not advise sharing examination work, or suggesting it.

I did Woodwork last year and I was fairly worried about the portfolio, but around 30 pages should get you an A. It's worth more than the actual project so it obviously needs a lot of work. Just follow the headings and keep in mind how many marks are going for each section :p

30 pages should be perfect but make sure your not just putting pages in for the sake of it! 10 good pages would be better than 30 pages of complete waffle :) Goodlucks Guys!

Something's confusing me about woodwork. How much is the project worth exactly?

The project's worth 200 marks (including the 70 for the portfolio).

The written exam has 40 marks for Section A (2.5 marks per questions for 16) & 60 marks for Section B (20 marks for each 3 questions), making the paper worth 100 marks. However, on the marking schemes it marks Section B questions as 40 marks each (making Section B worth 120 marks) and questions in Section A as 5 marks each (making Section A worth 80 marks) This would mean that there's 200 marks going for the written paper.

200 marks for the written paper would make the project worth only 50%, but it's suppose to be 66%. Can anyone shed a light on this please?

I've linked two different making schemes below to show you that it wasn't just one marking scheme was wrong or something?

    The Chief Examiner's report says:

The examination at both levels comprises two components:
    1)
    Coursework (200 marks – 66.6%)
    2)
    Written Examination (100 marks – 33.3%)

The 200/100 marks may be an adjustment they made for marking purposes where people were getting partially correct answers and the old marking scheme did not allow partial marks. The final paper mark would then be divided and the appropriate percentage given.

    I don't know that for a fact, it's a possible explanation.

By the way it looks and neat
How many coats of varnish did you put it
We had to put in 3 but I only got to do 2 coats and it is no way near shiny as yours :(

I put 3 coats of varnish, my project is made from red deal, maybe u should apply the final coat.
It is the 3rd option in higher level, it s an artefact that is supposed to be handed to someone new to my local area.
