I'm trying to connect my Inspiron 1720 laptop (Windows Vista) to my Samsung HD tv. I'm running a VGA cable from the laptop to the tv and getting a perfect picture. I'm running an audio cable (mini jack at both ends) from headphones socket on the laptop to the PC audio In socket on the tv. (The Headphones socket on the tv is the only other one that will take the mini jack.) I've tried both, but still can't get any sound from the tv.
All help gratefully received. Thanks in advance.
    John

Can you check both audio sockets, plug headphones into laptop and test and plug mp3 player into tv input and see if audio comes out of tv

might be a tv setting to select the audio source or a headphone setting on the laptop causing you trouble, other wise it's the cable

Thanks very much. I've just discovered that the problem lies with my laptop; for some reason, I can hear audio on the internal speaker but not on the external ones connected via the headphones socket. I've checked the external speakers and cable with an MP3 player and they're both ok.
