Anyone know what the numbers over the DOG are ?

They show intermittently during matches, have seen them just now on sky sports 2 HD

    The ones I saw were 015 880 390

Noticed this last weekend, different numbers, anyone I asked did not know what they are about

    They ain't phone numbers anyway

I tried dialling as it is and with +44 and drop the 0

I wonder is it something to do with piracy, a code that would show up in a pub if that pub was using a residential sub ?

It must mean something otherwise it wouldn't still be showing up

I like how the sky employee claims: " It will not affect your viewing experience in any way." Countless forum posts asking what the number is would suggest otherwise.

You can avoid the number by rewinding back a second or watching the match through the red button.

It's to catch the source of online illegal streams.

Sky Italia done this a few year back too.

    Pretty poor anti piracy measure.

The numbers that come up on mine are the same every week and have been for the last few years. so each account has its own set of numbers. if you ever give your box/card to the local pub and the numbers came up in the presence of the sky watchdog they would be able to pinpoint the persons account...

Simple and effective I thought. Allows them to knock off illegal streams easily.

A better way would be to embed an almost invisible watermark - but it's probably not technically possible for Sky boxes to do this.

I imagine most who stream are probably not using a Sky digibox

I've seen loads who do - I just laughed my head off & thought that was crazed.

    Yet the reply states
This is not related to your individual subscription and is generated automatically as part of the broadcast. It will not affect your viewing experience in any way.

It's linked to your viewing card number. Everyone's number is different. It's also not broadcast - the number is calculated and displayed by your digibox. As people have said, it's to catch online streaming.

It's pretty stupid and annoying imo. Even if those who are streaming are using digiboxes, rewinding a few seconds and playing from there removes the number.
