    Hi.

Have an S3, was getting sick of touch wiz, and now with touchwiz jellybean, am totally sick of it, given that my phone has totally slowed down with this supposed upgrade.

I am tech savvy but have never done this before.

I would like to get the stock jelly bean experience on my S3, can anyone point me to an idiots guide somewhere to do this?

What you seek will be here, somewhere. I'm not sure if there's a pure android rom as such but Cyanogenmod 10 and AOKP are pretty close, with a few tweaks and extra options thrown in.

    Cyanogenmod 10

    AOKP

Both threads have links to guides to help you get started.

Supernexus is the best rom imo. There's a fool proof guide on xda. I used it on my s3 and was very impressed.

+1 for SuperNexus, it's the Nexus Rom ported to the S3. You'll need clockwork mod recovery to install it

    SuperNexus is pretty good alright.
Some little quirks to it, which only show up from time to time, but the major drawback was the inability to have exFAT or NTFS formatted SD cards, which is a major drawback for certain users, as you'd be limited to FAT32 file system, which can be noticeably slower at certain tasks if you do a lot of read operations from an external card.
Other than that, it was impressive enough.

Hi guys. I'm thinking of giving SuperNexus a go on my S3. Are there any bugs I should be aware of? e.g.deep sleep issues, X or y not working, no front camera etc.?

More importantly... what is the battery life like?

    Cheers BN

Have to admit having messed around with a number of ROMs, I'm back with the regular Samsung JB release.

I had SuperNexus for a few weeks, and really liked it, but had 2 problems:

    1) The camera / gallery seemed really buggy - sometimes taking a photo would take 3 or 4 attempts as the camera app would crash. It just didn't feel as fast as the official camera app too
    2) Battery life wasn't great for me which seems to be contrary to everyone else's experience

Tried fixing these with multiple wipes, reinstalls etc etc but couldn't improve it.

Did a full wipe a few days back and installed stock and its flying and I'm finding much better battery life.

For the OP, the xda forum does have everything but not necessarily in a simple step by step process, it took me a few hours of watching youtube vids to figure it out:

    1) You need to root the S3 first before you can do anything else - very easy takes about 30 seconds when you have the correct files downloaded
    2) Google 'root GS3' (or some variation on that)and you'll find plenty of guides - basically you need to download a small zip which usually contains Odin, a piece of software for messing around with ROMs etc. Also contains ClockWorkMod and SuperUser
    3) Use Odin to root the phone, then make a CWM backup - for the love of God don't forget to backup your phone - Titanium Backup is also really good
    4) Once you do that d/l the ROM of your choice - e.g. SuperNexus (the zip should also include the google apps package)
    5) You then use CWM to do a wipe / factory reset, and then install the ROM/gapps from within the CWM startup menu (again check youtube, you'll find videos)
    6) If you want to revert to stock, you can download everything you need from here (which is what I did when I reverted back) (or use a backup):

That's about it - I'm sure the experts can give you more detail on the forums, but as a newbie that's how I went about it. The first time I did it I was ****ting a brick, but its actually very simple.
