Housing Issue

Regular poster but had to go under cover as some know me. Here's the problem I'm currently under the Shared Ownership Scheme. We bought into a not so great area but we knew what it was and we love it here. about 4 years ago the council tenant next door was getting hassle from a known anti social family and had to be rehomed outside of the area - garda were involved it was terrible for the family. But with the help of local TDs one of the members of this anti social family were housed next door.

We spoke with the council about Their vetting policy and they said once the tenant isn't in arrears and is in need of housing that's all that matters - and if we have a problem we have to get neighbours in the estate to come forward so the council can study the facts. We can't do that as members of their family live in the estate and I don't see why I should have to go around getting complaints when the council already knew the back story of the family.

What I really need to know is though it will kill me, do I have a chance (I doubt this) of transferring my Shared Ownership to a different property - this scheme is no longer available. Ive asked the council to buy back my house at today's value and they won't cos they have too many properties on their books. Afraid to go to local representatives as the family in question seem to have their fingers in every pie.

    Any help.

The local authority who administrates the scheme would be best placed to let you know the terms and conditions of the scheme.

While transferring doesn't look a likely option according to citizens.ie, it might be worth getting legal advice re your option to sell the house being dependant on how many houses the local authority already have on their books/what other options you have.

    All the best.

They won't let you Swop it. Best thing to do is to rent it out and rent elsewhere.
If your lucky you'll get a local from the area who'll settle in fine.
