Aviva vs 123.ie - massive difference.

Was just getting some quotes on an OPC Astra 06. I'm not planning on buying the car atm, but was thinking about it next year (if money allows). Anyway, was pretty dumbfounded with the difference in price.

    Details
22y/o male, 3years NCD as named driver, full license 3 years, no points.Used car reg to find car details on both sites.
    Car: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4033713

    Aviva price: €1,530 (Fully comp)
    123.ie price: €7,900 (Fully comp)

Anyone able explain how there is €6000+ difference in the quotes?

123.ie don't want your business (at least not "your" demographic anyway), they can't just tell you to F*** OFF so they just throw some massive figure at you so you'll get the message.

I came across the same when insuring the Focus, quinn/liberty who i was with for 5 years with no claims wanted €1,050 a year when 123.ie were offering me a better policy for €530. I am 29 with 5 years no claims no points/convictions etc.

All companies do it to gently shove undesirable market segments away.

Nice choice of car btw and in fairness the Aviva Quote for a 22 year old is not bad.

I know, I was expecting €2500+ minimum. Wish I had the money now, would take out policy immediately.

That's a fantastic price on the opc! Hmmmm...I must check that now :D

couldnt be quoted. 21 with 3 years license and 2years ncb in own name and 1 as named driver (which you cant enter aswel) but if i put in that i have 3 years named experience then i get a quote of 1370e. thats retarded?i thought insurance in your own name was supposed to be a good thing!

You'd swear the OPC was a fecking supercar.

I don't mean that in a derogotary sense towards the car, it's a quick little yoke, but it's hardly insanely powerful now to justify any ridiculous premium.

Id call them to be sure or proceed with the quote right up to the point where the website wants your credit card details, the Aviva website will only quote the car based on the Make and engine size.

Its when you proceed with the quote the model details are concidered. The first price is a quick quote so its juat quoting a 2000cc Opel.

I know a person who got a quote for his S Class, and got a bargin price, when he called to check it out and ask a few questions before buying the price doubled as his car was actually a long wheel base. the website just quoted a Merc and its engine first. He would have descovered this when he went to complete and purchasethe quote.

Aviva can be good with SOME of the Higher Preformance cars. I know they only load the Golf GTi and the Altezza's much smaller compared to other companies.

123 have gone from being quite good for specialist/risk insurance when they were a tied agent for Travellers to being absolutely useless for them now that they're owned by RSA. They're chasing the middle aged, low power car market like nearly everyone else is.

Try a broker that deals with Travellers as they're probably the most likely to have a decent price for that age/car combo. If FBD don't change their target market they'll be cheap for you in, oh, 3 years - went from "we don't insure that car" to being 15% cheaper than anyone else when I went from 24 to 25!

He is 24, it's a 240bhp 155mph hatchback. The Aviva quote is hardly a ridiculous premium considering.

a 22 year old with zero NCB on his own and his first car is a 240BHP hot hatch and he gets a quote for €1,500? Nearly unbelievable....

10 years ago a 22 year old with FULL NCB would have been quoted 5 times that on a far less powerful car...

Might I suggest trying through Insure.ie - I'm with them now the past 3 years and me and the missus just got insured with the following details.

    ** 2006 Grande Punto 1.2 Petrol 5-Door - Valued @ €4000 **

    Main (missus, she's full license) - 24F - 5 Years NCD + 2 Name, Full License
Name (that would be myself) - 26M - 2 Years NCD + 1 Name, Prov. License

Quote for the year, full comprehensive with nice Aviva extras - €430!

Can anyone explain to me why the in-store price with AXA is 3 times the quote on their website?

    100% same details.
