I drive about 50k per day 5 days a week; this costs about 45euro per week.

Is this good fuel consumption /MPG?

    I drive a 99 Rover 214. (1.4 engine)

    thanks

    If you're doing 250km that's 27mpg @166.9 a litre

    If you're saying its 250 miles then that's 43mpg

50k? I assume you mean km (kilometres).
Assuming you buy petrol at about 1.639 per litre, you get 27.46 litres.
    That gives you 250km.
So your fuel consumption is: 10.98 litres/100km

IMHO it's bad for such small car as rover 214 even if all the driving is done in rush hour city traffic.
If it's a country road or motorway milage, then it's very very bad fuel consumption.

At a quick glance i would say it is not the best, for 250km you are using approx 27L of petrol which is high. Calculations may be wrong though.

    hi,

thanks for the reply... its 50 kilometres not miles... and it is in busy traffic and a large portion on the motorway too...

would i be better off with a larger engine? say a 1.6? (im thinking Audi A3 [3 door].

You can't make any decision based on this. The data is not accurate. You have no idea how much petrol you are using exactly. Do a couple of fills to empty, resetingt the trip meter. You will need to do this more than once to iron out any variances like headwinds or heavier than normal traffic.

When you know the real figure you can make a proper decision on changing cars?

I have had a couple if cars with that engine usually got about 35mpg or 8ltrs/100kms.

Just checking: if your 214 is a 99, are you sure your odometer is in kms, and not miles ?

Either way, do a proper fill and measure as advised above.

We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

My scooby is doing that mpg. 11l per 100km and that's mixed driving and foot down now and then, so a small 1.4 engine with same mpg is a very very bad figure.

    That's actually a good hint.
It it was 11 lites/100 miles as opposed to 11 litres/100km, then it would be about right. Equals to around 6.8 litres/100km or 41.5 mpg.
