Nothing new about it, every propriotory golf course works off of a similar model

You pay about 280 a year, this included your GUI. Weekly comps are held on the smurfit course and you pay, I think, 40 euro per round there.

I'm a member... you pay €300 a year and then €40 (winter) or €45 per round to play on a Sunday morning on the Smurfit course at the K Club. (There may be a first year discount of €75 for new members at the moment). Hibernian is a fully fledged golf club so you get your handicap and can play opens.
Pros: It's a friendly club, you're guaranteed to get on the timesheet on an excellent course any Sunday morning you want (just a phone call or email), your up-front outlay is low. I think you can get out during the week at the same price if you want - not an option I've used myself. Last two years we had our Captain's prize on the Palmer course for a reasonable rate - a nice opportunity to play there.
Cons: Could get expensive if you were playing a lot. Course layout is great but bunkers are not always in great condition.
Great option for handicap and occasional golf on top course.

    Hope that helps.....

Bunkers are always in the worst condition.

The Smurfit is an excellent layout, I find it more difficult than the Palmer, but the condition of the course is (was) really poor. The greens really went to pot up to June this year, when I last played it, and those bunkers are really bad. I hope they've put more effort into maintaining the course since, as I would like to play it again next year.

Hibernian is a great club, some really nice guys involved with it, and great value if you play no more than 20 times a year.

Sorry - lost an important word there. Should have read "bunkers are not always in great condition" (!)

Played it quite recently. Greens were very good. Apart from bunkers, the course is in good condition. Greenside bunkers are fine, if a bit hard. Fairway bunkers were out of play. I guess we can't have everything .... fees coming down, "big course" clubs (or owner companies) can't afford to maintain all the bunkers that were designed in, in the Celtic Tiger days.
