Hi,I got married last year and am only now getting around to thinking about joint tax assessment. The Revenue site only seems to describe how they treat a joint assessment in the year of marraige (on the basis that you inform them at that time) and subsequent years. Does anyone know if I can register for joint assessment now and make a claim for last year (we would be due a refund if jointly assessed for last year) or will we only be jointly assessed from the time of registering for joint assessment with Revenue.Any advice appreciated.

If you are both listed as single in Revenue's systems then when you apply for joint assessment, it is back dated to your date of marriage (a year of marriage review is carried out). You will then be able to be jointly assessed for 2012 onwards.
