Just came across a couple of interesting research papers - maybe they have been posted here before, I'm not sure, apologies if that's the case. One is just a bit of fun - a single subject case study on the effect of steel vs carbon on commuting time.http://www.bmj.com/content/341/bmj.c6801The second is a bit more meaty - an analysis of bike sales vs actual use in Australia. Kinda relevant when we look at all the hype about the 'success' of the bike to work scheme, based just on sales. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S009174351100380X

Brilliant stuff. Love the end bit:

"Conclusions A lighter bicycle did not lead to a detectable difference in commuting time. Cyclists may find it more cost effective to reduce their own weight rather than to purchase a lighter bicycle."
