It's been a great autumn for colour-I was struck by the colour of these poplars, went to look, and not sure if they are a true aspen or an aspen hybrid.
The form is columnar, feathered to the base and I wonder if it is just an unpruned aspen? Also the bark is unusually smooth.

They do look like aspen. My ones are older (80-90 years old) and also have the smooth bark but this breaks up into diamond shaped cracks towards the base of the trunk, up to about 10 foot or so.
