    HEy all,

Just set up my trainer, and my is it loud...

Can anyone suggest ways to reduce the noise emitted?

Suppose placing some carpet under the main part will help...Any other suggestions?

    Cheers in advance

Noise doesn't bother me, just trying to be considerate of the other people in the house...Also the bike trainer is quiet lovely, allows me to race ppl online:)

Considerate never won a race. :D So tell them to HTFU or HTFU yoursef and move the whole contraption to the back garden.:)
Otherwise carpets or mats on the floor and try grease instead of oil on the drive train.

OK, we will get there eventually. There are 4 types of resistance mechanism that I know of. Air fan loudest, electric motor loud, flywheel and clutch plates or strap loud and I have Tacx Sirrus which turns rotor spinning in gel which is relatively quiet. So soundproof the resistance mech as best you can without restricting the air flow if it needs cooling.

By refusing to use the hateful thing, I've managed to silence mine.

But seriously...I've found in the past that the vibrations can make quite a racket. I put my trainer on one of those rubbery yoga mats which cut down the noise. A bit of carpet would be worth trying too, though it won't leave you 'centred' like a yoga mat will.

If you use a turbo trainer specific tyre it should result in some noise reduction.
