I have never had a job at Christmas as I was to young or had exams. But when do shops starting looking for people for Christmas and has anyone seen shops hiring yet?

You're actually leaving it rather late, shops have been looking for christmas staff for awhile now. It would be best for you to hand out CVs asap, keep an eye on jobs.ie and fas.ie under the keyword 'seasonal' or 'christmas' and watch local shops for any signs up.
Most of my friends who were seeking christmas work have already been hired and begun their training but if you're quick you can still apply to christmas positions, just start searching now.

Don't forgot, hotels like the Mont Clare in Dublin do a load of Christmas parties... at Christmas, funnily enough... so you should consider approaching them asking if they will need any temporary waiting or bar staff.

Dunnes are still hiring for Xmas for the next 2 weeks.

Where are you based? You probably have left it a bit late, but there's no harm in trying anyway!

I work in Schuh in Cork and we've removed the Christmas temp sign from our window as of last week so I'm assuming that we're no longer accepting applications. Penneys had signs up behind their tills about Christmas jobs but that was over 6 weeks ago. Maybe try the likes of Dunnes and Supervalu etc, you might get lucky!

For future reference if you're unsuccessful this time, you really need to be applying for Christmas employment around the start of October. I was hired as a Christmas temp last year and started on the 1st of December, Christmas starts early in retail!:p

I'm in the exact same situation. I've been handing out Cvs all over the place since Sept. I've had 5 interviews and didn't get one of the jobs. In most cases I was told it was because I had "lack of experience" One interviewer was not at all pleasant about my choice to take a gap year. I'm not giving up though and I'll continue searching. Keep handing Cvs out everywhere! Good luck!

Always follow up your CV drop with a call. Keep at them until you get a definite yes or no to the next step. Most employers will like the enthusiasm...
This might be a tip you are already of. Sounds like you are resilient enough anyway so best of luck.
