Yellow (painted) kitchen, what colour curtains?

    hi :-)

My kitchen is yellow, as close to banana yellow, as you'll get I supppose. But it's lovely.

Well for the last 4 years we have cream curtains on the windows & French doors. I'm sick of taking them down to wash them all the time.

It's a very bright room, and gets the sun all day from about 12 O'clock onwards, till the sun goes down.

The kithen itself is chestnut, with black worktops, & black splashback tiles.
The table is Oak (not very dark) with black leather chairs.
The fireplace is tall, antique pine.
The blinds on the windows are wooden, in chestnut to match the kitchen.

As far as curtain colours are concerned, I was thinking of maybe Chocolate brown? Or a type of Terracotta colour?
    i don't now should I go for a nice design/print too?

Any suggestions please? I'm tormented trying to decide, cos curtains aren't cheap! Thanks :-)

Grey or chocolate would work well with yellow and a brown/chesnut colour.

Had HomeFocus custom make me a nice set of blackout curtains, from a 2 tone wavey grey fabric that I chose.
I will dig out a pic and show you what I mean.

    Thank You :-)

    Voila.

Might not be to your liking, but its an idea for you anyway.

Wooden Blinds are a pecan colour.........very close to an oak colour.

Is the entire kitchen painted yellow??

Did you ever think of doing 1 wall in a completely different colour,to make it a feature wall?

Could work very well for you and the kitchen and colours you have.

I was a non beliver in this, until my girlfriend managed to convince me that it would and would work very well.

Now every room in the house has at least 2 colours in it.The kitchen/dinning area has 4.:)

that looks very very pretty Paddy, but It looks like your curtains are matching your walls. If i were to do that, i'd end up with yellow curtains. but the grey/mocha s lovely :-)

How about black and white? They'd match your dining chairs and would be very striking against the yellow.

Ya the whole kitchen is yellow. We always had 2 tone...back in the old house, when EVERYONE had one wall painted 'Tir na nóg' looked fab in the old sitting room fireplace wall. But I wanted something more uniform with this house.

I'm really edging towards the chocolate brown curtains, my table is over next to the french doors, my only concern, is the black chairs, next to the brown curtains.

I was looking at some pics of kitchens with red (!!!) curtains with ALOT of either yellow/pale primrose detail in them. From what I can see, theres more 'detail' then red. Not something that can be got at Argos, if ya know what I mean! I want to get it right. The black & White idea is good also :-)

They are the curtains in the bedrom.

I was just showing the 2 tone wavey grey colour and against a brown wooden blind

Yellow walls would make the grey or chocolate curtains "pop" out.

If you paint the internal window and door reveals a white colour then this gives you a sense of space and makes the window and door openings seem biger than they are.

If you can and are willing to,then take one wall in the kitchen and make it a feature wall and paint it a completely different colour. My girlfriend went with red, green, grey and white in the kitchen/dinning area.

That combined with the white painted internal window and door reveals gives a great illusion of space and depth and it also gives the human eye different aspects to focus on.:)

Oh and Penneys are selling fully lined eyelet/ringtop grey and chocolate coloured curtains (90 x 90,90 x 72) for 20 euro a pair.

I bought a pair for one of the smaller bedrooms, and they are quite nice indeed.

    Hiya,
Agree that grey would be a good option for the kitchen. There is a lot going on with the other finishes so a soft grey would complement. Have a look at the Cavendish Stripe in dove grey from Laura Ashley, it's a light fabric and would be perfect for kitchen windows and a good lining would make it heavy enough for french doors. I usually buy from the Boucher rd store in Belfast, they deliver down to cork for £6.50, as the prices in sterling are way better even if exchange rate is poor.
Also I buy fabric from the shop, lining from Guineys and get a local lady to run them up for me
    HTH

Hi, from my experience as an interior designer i would probably recommend you go for a grey, yellow and grey work great togeather and you wont need to worry about any brown/black clashes. light grey or dark grey is up to you i think both would work :)

If you paint the internal window reveals white, then it makes the windows seem bigger and deeper too.

Gives a sense of space too.:)

I'd also go for a black n white mix curtain, mainly black.
Please don't paint your reveals white, its horrible. Dunno who came up with that idea but everyone who does it, keeps it for a few years then hates it. Skip that few years and just avoid.
Blacks, greys, a bit of white. Loads of curtains with that mix, maybe a tiny bit of yellow too.

Well thats what I did and I love it.It gives a sense of deeper and bigger windows and an overall sense of space.

Its also different to the norm and thats what I like about it.:)

Everyone has different styles and tastes (thats how the world works).....you have yours and I have mine.

Not exactly, I'm gonna wait for the January sales and have a look. I'll just take down the cream curtains that we have, wash & iron them, and wait till Jan. Thanks for asking :-)
