    It's up to stations to pay to be on. It's cheaper than DAB, but too expensive for other than a national station. Even then the economics of cost vs extra listeners is poor.

    Can it really cost that much, given the low bitrate needed - especially as codecs like AAC are supported? Newstalk is FTA on Astra 28.2, that can't be all that cheap. They plug listening on their website to international listeners - this costs them money and I can't see how their advertisers get any benefit from that.

    In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
