Recruitment Agency angst

    Hi,

If this has been raised previously then apologies.

I would like to get peoples opinions on recruitment agencies in general, not any specific agency or person in one.

I am working as a contractor at the moment and it expires in January. I am actively looking for a new marketing position but am finding myself getting increasingly frustrated by how recruitment agencies are going about their business.

For example one agency in particular had three positions posted and refreshed on their website and the irishjobs website today. when I inquired about these three positions I was told they are not taking applications. I politely asked why were the jobs still online and why were they are made to look like they are new. Their answer was that their client was reviewing CV's already sent and not taking any more, but that they wanted to have some ready should they need more. While I can somewhat see the logic, the easier thing for all parties is just remove the ad/post until the client needs more.
Adding to my anger here is how I was being dealt with when inquiring. So I checked out the person on linked in and see that they have only worked as a recruiter for 3 MONTHS, and only as an intern in college for four months. How is someone with such minimal practical experience allowed to have such an influence over a persons career? After i looked I realised I had sent an application to the company no 2 months ago for another position and this same person had informed me I was too experienced for the role I had applied for!!!!

In general I don't like how they put themselves as the gatekeepers on these jobs and won't even give you vital information on where a job is located or a salary range, instead requiring you to 'register' with their agency first.
