I was going to buy a Cube U30GT but decided to go for the more expensive 10" YuanDao N101 II. The cube has decent reviews but I felt there was more support for the YuanDao and had a better spec.

I'm sure you can google a forum where people have bought and flashed the Cube. If you can't then I would avoid it as you'll need to be able to root and flash any Chinese tablet you buy.

Why would i need to root it?

If you leave the Chinese firmware on the tablet you will be restricted on the play store to apps that are allowed for download in China (i.e. no Twitter or Facebook) and you will also have the Chinese bloatware pre-installed on the tablet with no way of deleting them.

You don't HAVE to flash a new ROM on it but it's definitely advised!

Great :D Is there a difference between rom, root and flash or do they mean the same thing

Basic answer: You root the tablet to gain full access to the device so you can Flash (install) a custom rom (adapted version of android) on your tablet.

There's a chance you can brick your tablet (F&$% it up) so read ALL the instructions and caveats before beginning.

You should be ok, but if you've any questions and/or doubts contact the guys in that forum for some help/advice. Nobody will be held responsible if something goes wrong but if you read all steps carefully and follow directions to a 'T' you should be grand ;)
