Hi as the title goes I need a cheap and cheerful beginners laptop for facebook office and internet. I don't want to go over 400 with this. I have a Desktop and a gaming laptop so just want something that the kids can break over a couple of years and use for School facebook etc. So basically the best for well under 400 I am after.

    Any opinions on this

    Yeah very basic laptop.

Maybe want something smaller, lighter for kids? like 11.6 - 14 inch and sub 2Kg. Or 15 inch with some other color rather than glossy black fingerprints magnet?

Check Powercity End Of Life deals: http://www.powercity.ie/?action=Laptops&grpclass=10-30&action=eoldeals
    Scroll down there you have:
    - SAMSUNG 11.6" Model : NP305U1A-A01UK
    - colorful (pink or blue) Samsung NP300V5A with dual core Pentium processor
    Also worth consider form there:
    - Acer LX.RNT02.055 with AMD A4 Dual Core 3300m 1.9ghz
    - Toshiba C660D-28D intel Core I3 Dual Core 370 2.40ghz

    any of these for €400.

    If you like Elara shop:
    - ASUS X401A is 14" 1.85Kg, not that glossy as black and should be available also in other colors @ €409
    - Acer TravelMate B113-E-967B4G32akk 11.6" 1.4Kg still punchy enough Pentium @ €375.

Just stay away from Celeron and AMD C-50 and C-60 processors.

Make that anything AMD (except maybe A-8 or A-10, which you won't get with a budget of €400 tops anyway)

I recently bought three similar spec Toshiba laptops for self and grandkids on the recommendation of my son who is a manager using his hi-gradeToshiba almost all day long every day. Like you I am now looking at a lower spek Toshiba for a younger grandchild.I know what I want but would like to point out some things I have gleaned from my research. The lowest spec will only give you a 2GB ram. This will be fine but if you are spending that amount of money you should be able to get one with a 4 GB ram. For internet use and homework this will be more suitable for your needs.
My other son works for a Chineese Co. but is based in Mexico. He arrived home in the summer with a brand new HP computor.I asked his opinion of same and he said over the years he had many laptops but this one was the biggest piece of crap ever made.I speak regularly to a man who runs his repair computor business so I explained that my son had recommended Toshiba to me. His answer to me was " I cannot answer you on Toshiba as Ihave not got one to repair. But if HP or Acer ever go out of business I also will go out of business. The bottom line is you pays your money and you take the chance.TMULL
