"Mr Feng has since been awarded $120,000 from his wife, as a sympathetic judge agreed she had tricked him into marrying her under "false pretences". Since his wife used intense surgery to drastically alter her appearance before she met Mr Feng, and since she never told him of it, the courts determined that she had convinced Mr Feng to marry him under "false premises," and thus sided with him."

This is just awful that a judge sided with him. It only adds to the pressure on Chinese women to fit a certain standard of beauty, and the fact that "unattractive" people should be shunned, "Our daughter was incredibly ugly, to the point where it horrified me"

Surely the pressure from this judgement is to not misrepresent physical attributes, and not to asses potential partners based on how close they are to a particular standard form of beauty?

Is this not like purchasing a ferrari - except the ferarri is a ford fiesta with bodywork made to look like a ferrari? Cold, I know, but it looks like the woman entered a contract under false pretences and might be in violation of the Supply of Goods and Service Act - or her jurisdiction's equivalent.

hmm I don't see how the judgement points to that. I think it sets a really dangerous precedent.

The woman still looks the same as when he married her, his issue is with the child not been beautiful enough for him to even look at her. But there is never any certainty that two beautiful parents will produce a beautiful child. And even if there was there's always a chance that an "ugly" child will grow and blossom into a beautiful person so the case has no grounds at all imo.

Sure his wife did withhold information from him but he was the one that made the assumption that his child would be beautiful based on their combined looks which was the wrong assumption to make.

I think it's a sensitive subject because of the one child policy in China and newborn baby girls being aborted left right and centre, there's a possibility that the father didn't want the child because she was born female.
