Above is a link to a site (worth a visit) but the "smilies code"? has picked up on the ": P" is should read as home: page=1 (with out the space). It wasn't my intention to have that smiley face considering the photos on display within the website.

Can this be taken out automaticaly when the text is a URL or does someone have to click the "disable smilies in text" box ?

Our BBcode parser is just a little overzealous when replacing smilies. I've got a fix in for it, should go live before the end of the day and allow the use of :page and other anomolies.

For FYI, using something like :type:p:page (a smilie followed by a colon and not letter/number) will still result in the smilie being parsed in the middle, there's not a lot I can do to get around it, we won't be gutting the BBcode parser any time soon.

    Thanks for the bug report

When posting, de-select the "Automatically parse links in text" option.

The OP wants the link. They could have disabled smilies in the post too but neither case was ideal. We should be doing our best to not parse things that aren't meant to be smilies :)

    Ah, then manually insert [noparse][url][/url][/noparse].

That doesn't work, the smilie will still be parsed. This hasn't anything to do with the URL, just the smilie parser

Edit: OK, I think it used to manifest itself differently in the past.

The only option would be to turn off smileys, but that's a forum setting, not a user setting, so it doesn't really apply.

Right.. emm.... so the best way is to... preview a post that might have a smile in it and then just disable the smilies if needs be ?

Nope, Victor is misinformed and is confusing matters.

OP, carry on as normal and do nothing different. When the code change goes live your URL will appear normally just like you expected. This fix should work in 99% of cases for things with colons in them, there are limited times when it won't but it is the best we can do :)
