Trans Sexual Health Seminar. Kilkenny. 4th December 2012

Trans women and trans men are different. They have different bodies, and therefore experience different risks to the general population. It’s not always easy for trans women or trans men to find correct information about sex and sexual health. It is also not easy for sexual health service providers to have the information they need to better serve and support their trans clients.

To address this, a seminar on Trans sexual health is being planned for Tuesday 4th December 2012 in Kilkenny. This seminar is aimed at providing information on the issues around trans sexual health for health care professionals, trans individuals and organisations, and other interested parties. It will particularly provide sexual health workers with the resources and information they need to better serve and support their trans clients.

Speakers on the day will include Justin Harbottle from the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) in Brighton, who will present on THT’S approach to trans sexual health in the UK. THT is the UK’s leading HIV and sexual health charity, and has developed two new trans publications that deal with sexual health, HIV and wellbeing issues: TransWomen and TransMen.

James Morton from Scottish Transgender Alliance (STA) will provide information on how their group has approached trans health issues in Scotland. STA is a volunteer organisation that aims to improve the lives and experiences of all transgender people living in Scotland through building strong and supportive alliances between groups and individuals with various gender identities.

Other speakers will be announced closer to the event.

If this is a seminar you are interested in attending, please contact Bernadette Smyth as soon as possible at berni@lgbtdiversity.com to register your expression of interest.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
