Hi I have a 32 inch Hanspree tv and can't get teletext on rte 1 and net 2. It wont pick up the digital text. It picks up the analogue text on tv3. I have no problem with another Digital TV I have and another tv with a box attached. Tried everything. Any ideas? Its the main TV in the house and parents use text regularly. Thanks

What is the model number of the Hanspree TV? Is it on the saorview approved list on www.saorview.ie?

If it is saorview approved then you should get the new digital text. This means the TV has MPEG4 + MPEG5. (The latter is needed to get digital text - that is why you can get text on your other TVs - one must be approved and the other has a soarview settop box.)

If the Hanspree TV is not approved and it doesn't have MPEG5, you won't get digital text.

There were various threads here about Hanspree TVs and problems with digital text. Eventhough they had MHEG-5 on board they had problems with Saorview digital text and Hanspree knew of the problem but was never resolved I believe.

RTE 1 & 2 turned off teletext (WST) a couple of days ago.

I have one of those TVs ..... and found no means to get 'digital text' from Saorview ........ SJ42DMBB I think .... not that I miss the teletext feature ...

Cheers for the replies. Ah sure we'll live without it. If Rte introduce the red button thing like BBC to view multiple events we'll just hook up a saorview box. Just annoying when the shop we brought it from said its fully saorview approved. Thanks for the help

And the solution is quite simple. Take it back to the shop. Goods have to be as described and the shop is responsible regardless of any manufacturers guarantees.

    +1

DID were selling a lot of these Hannspree's and AOC's. Their spec and packaging made mention of MHEG5 & on that basis alone, you'd have a strong case to seek redress under SOGA should you so wish.

Whatever short-cuts were taken by the manufacturer, MHEG5 won't work with Saorview yet red button services are fine on Freeview.

If the TV was sold as Saorview Approved, and is not working correctly, then IMO you should return it.

I bought my Hannspree in full knowledge that it was not Saorview Approved, and in the 'hope' the 'digital text' and other MHEG5 functions *might* work.
I have no cause for complaint ...... but you most definitely have if the set was alleged to be Saorview Approved when purchased.
