Never did it myself, but my understanding was the main benefit was to get sheep lambing in a very tight timeframe, usually done for early lambs. I think you would also need a good few rams, maybe 1 ram for 7 to 10 ewes. Not sure of the exacts number...
Is it worth it - someone else will ave to answer that one.
Why are you thinking of it? It's getting late in the year now so most ewes should be cycling good enough to get a handy enough lambing spread i would have thought.
I should add I'm not the best man to be listening to, not long at sheep myself...
