Me and a few friends are looking at going over to work in, preferably LA or San Fran for approx 3 - 4 months next summer doing bar work or something similar.

Would it be easy enough to get a visa for this? Or what is the max stay on a visa ?

Also anyone any experiences or knowledge on summer work over there?

    Thanks in advance

Are you students? If so yeah, getting a summer J1 is easy. If you are not students or recent grads, no way of doing this sorry.

None of us are students. Could we not get a 90 day holiday Visa and go over ?

You could, but you are not entitled to work - hence the "Holiday Visa" - USA is unfortunately as closed shop for anyone wishing to turn up and start working, unless you win the Green Card Lottery or you work for an american company in Ireland who may wish to deploy you to the US.

If you finished college a few months ago is there any 3/4 month visa you can get?

Dont really want to get the 12 month visa.

No, but you are not obliged to stay for 12 months on that visa.

I believe the rules are stricter though on the 13 months with regards to having to work in your field of study

While it would be harder to get work without a visa it is still doable. San Fran would be your better option there. Just make sure you come home before the 90 days or future trips stateside could become a problem!

It is illegal to work on the Visa Waiver Program. You can go over to look for work/ interview, but cannot actually start work under this program. Boards.ie does not condone, advise on or help with illegal actions.

    Everyone is aware of that.

The Irish government does advise and help illegal immigrants in the U.S.
