    Hi,

A long shot here, looking for info on a James Moore who was 40 at the time of the 1901 census. He was living in Co. Laois, but his wife and 1st 2 sons were born in Co. Limerick, so presumably he moved from Louth to Limerick at some point.

for reference Moore Family, 1901 Census link

James is a shepherd, so may have moved around for work etc.

The townland of Ballinla is in the far west of Laois, right beside the borders with Tipperary and Offaly.

Have you birth certs for any of the children ?
If so you should have Bridget's maiden name, so could search for the marriage of James and Bridget to see where that took place, and also should show the names and occupations of their fathers.

p.s. have you found James and the rest of the family on the 1911 census ?

That's great thanks. I did find them on the 1911 census.

I already know Bridget's maiden name (Shanahan). Do you know where I might find out info on their marriage?

The place to search for a marriage is the BMD Index on FamilySearch - look for the bride and groom separately and note the references. If you find cross-matching entries - i.e. same year.quarter, district, volume & page then you have a possible match. You can use the references to order a marriage cert from the GRO.

Transcripts of some parish records for the counties involved (i.e. Limerick, Laois and Louth) are available on the pay-website at RootsIreland, which might be worth taking a look at. I'd try the civil index first for the marriage...

here's a possible marriage ... in the district just west of Limerick city.
    name: Bridget Shanahan
    Registration district: Croom
    Event type: Marriage
Quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1884
    Volume : 5 / Page : 149
a matching entry appear for a James Moore... so a probable groom.

p.s. the reason I asked about the 1911 census was because it has a 'years married' column, which helps narrow the search...
