Solid Oak Floors - Centre running carpet along hall

In our house we have solid oak floors in everyroom and our stairs is Ash....

We don't have carpet in any room at all.

I was thinking of breaking the complete timbre flooring somewhere i.e.
maybe along hallways or as a centre piece running up along the stairs.

Our house is a rennovated farmhouse so I am wondering what would be best. I am thinking along hallways might be too much but more so just up the stairs...... Or would that even work...

I am not good at picturing this in my head or wondering what other things or where I would be best to go looking at? Thanks

    Hi
Have a look at Houzz.com for ideas - search for 'carpet runners' lots of ideas there.
I love putting them in. They are one of those unusual details which even though traditional, can look very contemporary.
There are most commonly used on stairs but can actually be used anywhere.
Go to a reputable company for fitting as as small details like the ratio of carpet to open floor is important.
    Good luck!
