Anyone gonna play this next year? Looks like it's going to be on the masters weekend aswell:

    https://twitter.com/SMOpen

Seems like a good bit of craic and some great golf courses:

    Adare Manor
    Castlemartyr
    Old Head
    Mount Juliet

Yeah it a good idea and sounds good but not sure what sort of international pairings will come.
They also want a deposit paid by 30th Nov when the competition wont be on until April/May which is a bit much I think

Got an e-mail this morning saying they basically want €150 per team so only €75 each and for the quality of course we would be playing I would not let that put me off personally, full e-mail:

    Hi Everybody,
I hope all is well. You are included on this email because you indicated your interest in the Social Media Open, if you want to be excluded from future emails please me know.
We now have 2 options in terms of dates and packages as the finalised costs with the hotels and golf courses have affected the overall initial package price. Proposed itineraries as follows:
    PACKAGE 1
    Day 1, Thursday 25th April 2013
Golf at Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort, Overnight in Kinsale with Meet and Greet and optional Pints at White Lady Hotel (Finger Food may be arranged closer to the time)
    Day 2, Friday 26th April 2013
Golf at Castlemartyr, Overnight in Kinsale
    Day 3, Saturday 27th April 2013
Rest Day / Optional Golf / Sightseeing / Possible Pub Crawl of the Town
    Day 4, Sunday 28th April 2013
Golf at Old Head Golf Links, Overnight in Kinsale
    Day 5, Monday 29th April 2013
Final Day's Golf at Mount Juliet, Prize Giving Dinner at Mount Juliet Clubhouse, Optional Overnight in Mount Juliet or Kilkenny
    Day 6, Tuesday 30th April 2013
    Depart for Home
PACKAGE PRICE, GOLF & ACCOMMODATION (4 ROUNDS, 4 NIGHTS) €465. GOLF ONLY €275
    PACKAGE 2
    Day 1, Thursday 30th May 2013
Golf at Mount Juliet, Overnight in Kinsale with Meet and Greet and optional Pints at White Lady Hotel (Finger Food may be arranged closer to the time)
    Day 2, Friday 31st May 2013
Golf at Castlemartyr, Overnight in Kinsale
    Day 3, Saturday 1st June 2013
    Rest Day/Optional Golf/Sightseeing
    Day 4, Sunday 2nd June 2013
Golf at Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort (day trip), Overnight in Kinsale with possible Pub Crawl of the Town!
    Day 5, Monday 3rd June 2013
Final Day's Golf at Old Head, Prize Giving Dinner at Old Head Clubhouse, Overnight in Kinsale
    Day 6, Tuesday 4th June 2013
    Depart for Home
PACKAGE PRICE, GOLF & ACCOMMODATION (4 ROUNDS, 5 NIGHTS) €560. GOLF ONLY €340
What we now need is a consensus of which dates suits best and if the May/June weekend suits then is everybody happy paying that bit extra? The weather should be better but, of course, no guarantees there however. During the June Bank Holiday weekend there will be more happening around Kinsale alright so this may be a consideration in terms of after golf activities!
If transfers are required between golf courses and the hotel we will finalise these extras closer to the date of play or once the entry deadline has passed. A Deposit of €150 per Team of 2 is required to guarantee your booking and places will be given on a first come first served basis. The deadline for entries is 30th November 2012.
Anybody that wants to enter please get back to me at your earliest convenience and I will pass on details for this. I look forward to hearing back from ye soon and hopefully seeing ye on the course and in the pub after golf during the Inaugural Social Media Open in 2013!

    Yours in Golf,
    Tom Kennedy[/QUOTE]

Would be good for a bit of banter anyway and the fact that it is more than likely on Masters weekend would make it more interesting.

What a week of golf, I am completely panned out, if you haven't already, you should really try to get to all the courses we played, Adare standing out on it's own but the experience of the old head was like nothing else I have ever played.

Great stuff ssbob, did ye rally on Day 3 & 4?

Great pic, great posture...tell the truth, you hadn't even tee'd up your ball at that stage and were just posing :D

We had 37 on Day 3 which was about average and 27 on day 4 which was a little better than average I reckon, we moved up to 15th overall, so an average day one would have got us close to top 10!!

In all honesty, we were waiting on the group in front to move on and we said we'd take a few pics with practice swings, needless to say my actual swing wasn't have as balanced!!!:D:D

It was the fact that I couldn't see a tee or the ball in the distance, I wasn't hinting that your full swing wasn't as balanced :D

Nice shooting, can't have been easy carrying that lad for 4 days ;)

This might sound odd but the tee boxes look shocking?

I would say over the course of the 4 days he scored on about 65% of the holes and I scored on 35%, his back is pretty sore from carrying me at this stage!!

No they were in good nick, maybe the pic is bad or something, course is only opened about a week so the hollowcoring is still settling in and they are doing repairs to different parts of the course, they seem to hollowcore the whole course aswell which is mad ie. fairways, tee-boxes and greens!

The first day really did kill us. I will take some bit of the blame as I went out for 2pints on te Tuesday and done a bit of a bender. Hit the wall after about 7 holes in mount J..
After that I played some of the best golf I've played for a year but my putting was terrible.
Seriously enjoyable few days over all though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,564 ✭✭✭kiers47

A couple of nice photos here. Wind in the old head was something to experience. On the 15th I think it was I hit my tee shot about 30 yds right of the fairway out towards the sea and ended up back in the left rough(although it could have been a hook ;-) )

Looks like a great event lads, very jealous.

Ha. We were playing as a 2ball in the old head as the lads we were playing with walked off after 6 holes as they couldn't hack the wind. So loads of time for posing and photos!! A few models would have went down a treat but I reckon it would have affected the golf. ;-)

How did that work with putting in a card ?

Lads signed before we left and we are genuine blokes as you can see by our mediocre card!! Bit of a disaster really, if we had a chance of a prize, it may not have been as easy to submit a card!

If ye were in with a shout then I'd hope the lads wouldn't have walked.
Were you annoyed when they did ?

Lads walk off playing the old head course cause of the wind?? They need their heads examined!

Is there many boardsies playing other than Pete? I probably wouldn't be allowed go anyway with the new arrival unless I was bringing them all away with me!
