Have just come from the dentist and he is recommending a surgical extraction with augmentation for a possible crown or maryland bridge....I think he is talking about 2500 for implant and 3000 for bridge(2 teeth). These prices are in dublin. Should i consider going up north or is there a good place in dublin. Obviously my priority is to get the job done properly. I would welcome opinions. Not sure is the cost of surgery included or what it would come to. Thanks

A bit odd that a Maryland bridge is costing more than an implant.... I'd double check your prices...

Maybe i misheard with the financial shock. The dentist seemed to think an implant might not be suitable.

Figure out exactly whats going on here first, the prices seem pretty standard to me. You might "save" a bit traveling miles and spending several hundred on petrol but the most important thing is to get a good job done. If you comfortable with your dentist and trust their judgement thats worth a lot too.

I would recommend finding out what lab your dentist is using too. Some of them send your case abroad and you have no idea what metal they are using and the match is always a bit off. You can ask to meet with the technician too. They can take the shade of your other teeth so you have an exact match of both shape and colour. Some dentists maybe colour blind or the light in the surgery may not be right. My sister had an implant fitted that was made in China!!! It was obvious to everyone it wasn't her own tooth. She insisted on seeing a technician and he was brilliant. The differance was amazing. You can't tell which tooth is which and it was at no extra cost because the first one looked like a chip taken from the toilet bowel and unless your bleaching weekly no one has such white teeth. He told her that your teeth can have loads of different natural colours in them and that is what he matches. And to top it all off he was local and it was much quicker.
I suppose what I am saying is... You are the one paying for it. Just make sure they don't try and dick you by you paying for a local dentist and your implant or maryland being made somewhere else.

this is unnecessary. your sister should've just stood her ground and asked for a better matching crown the first time without having to go elsewhere.
the other dentists that post here use technicians in the UK, USA and ireland as far as i know.

If you're seeing a specialist, you will ALWAYS be seen for a consultation first, to discuss your options, pros cons, cost, any questions you may have, ect. After this, when you have all the information at hand, you'll feel much more equipped to make an informed decision. Whether to proceed with treatment or not, with that specialist or someone else, will be a lot more straightforward once you know what's involved.
