(seems a good time to repost this)

As you may or may not know, many of the marathons and half-marathons in Ireland recruit their pacers via boards.ie, usually one of our posters who knows the race director is responsible for recruiting and organising the pacers. The poster will then start a thread in the pacers' forum, explaining the race requirements and compensation, and looking for people to step up.

If you're interested in pacing a race and don't currently have access to the pacers forum send a pm to one of the mods to gain access.

There are generally qualification times needed to run particular pace bands, though exceptions can be made depending on the history/abilities of the person who is offering to pace and how familiar the organiser is with you, so even if you fall outside the 'qualification' time you may still be recruited to pace. If you're interested in pacing a race make yourself known. For example, someone who can run 1:30ish off the bike in a HIM but has a standalone half marathon pb of 1:25 can still pace 90 minutes or someone who has a half marathon pb of 1:50 but has more recently run a 75 minute 10 mile can pace 2 hours etc

    Half-marathon:
    2:00 - pb of 1:45
    1:50 - pb of 1:38
    1:45 - pb of 1:35
    1:40 - pb of 1:30
    1:30 - pb of 1:22

    Marathon:
    4:30 - pb of 4:00
    4:15 - pb of 3:45
    4:00 - pb of 3:30
    3:45 - pb of 3:19
    3:30 - pb of 3:06
    3:15 - pb of 2:56
    3:00 - pb of 2:48

I'm getting messages asking about pacing for this marathon, and its only April;), so for the moment for anyone interested; a call for pacers will go out around July, all pacers will be recruited from these pages, and all information will be posted and discussed through the pacer forum here (so no Facebook, emails, whatever; too messy).

Ergo if you've sent me a message and I'm ignoring it, its not just because I'm a cranky fecker, it's because we'll start the process a couple of months from now, and keep all the info contained so that everyone's singing from the same hymnsheet:)

I'd just like to stress this point. He's really really cranky.

We're currently recruiting pacers for the Dublin marathon. This year, pace bands will be every 10 minutes. There's still spaces looking for pacers (especially at the slower bands), and I'd like to have as many Boardies as possible pacing. If you have run a marathon recently in the guidelines below, we're interested in hearing from you! Full details on the private pacers forum (PM a mod for access, and thanks to the mods for the extra work this entails;)). All queries and replies answered via the pacers forum. Nothing is set in stone yet, but the current state of play is as follows (slots without vacancies are currently full):

3:00 (Having recently ran sub 2:48)

3:10 (Having recently ran sub 2:55)
    (Currently 1 slot available)

3:20 (Having recently ran sub 3:00)

3:30 (Having recently ran sub 3:06)
    (Currently 2 slots available)

3:40 (Having recently ran sub 3:14)
    (Currently 1 slot available)

3:50 (Having recently ran sub 3:22)

4:00 (Having recently ran sub 3:30)

4:10 (Having recently ran sub 3:39)

4:20 (Having recently ran sub 3:48)

4:30 (Having recently run sub 4:00)
    (Currently 1 slot available)

4:40 (Having recently run sub 4:05)
    (Currently 1 slot available)

4:50 (Having recently run sub 4:10)
    (Currently 2 slots available)

5:00 (Having recently run sub 4:15)
    (Currently 1 slot available)

Huge interest in this, we have a very good crew organized this year. There's still just a couple of spots left at the 4:50, 5:00, pace bands, so this is your last chance, if you've run a faster marathon than 4:15 recently, and fancy pacing for Dublin, get your details in ASAP (via the pacer forum). :)

    lol
so tempted to get you to mail the organiser :)

PM the forum mods and ask for access to the pacers' forum. Other races look for pacers during the year, and practice pacing smaller races will look good on your cv
