    Hi guys,

Im moving back to Ireland in a few days from the UK. I have a free view built in TV which is coming with me. Dont really know much about this saorview malarkey having been away for a while. Can anybody tell me if

    1) My freeview tv will accept saorview or will I need to get a box
    2) Can I still receive freeview i.e uk channels using a sky dish?
    3) is it possible to get a box which will give me both?

Sorry if this has already been asked but all help is appreciated

also going to be back in Dublin not sure if that makes a difference with coverage....

    1. Post the model number of the TV and I will tell you.
    2. Yes you can receive the UK channels with a Sky dish and suitable receiver in Ireland (ie Freesat/FTA/old Sky box)
    3. Yes called combo boxes. About €100. Large threads here on them below called Ferguson Ariva 150/250 etc. Do both in customisable channels lists.

Coverage in Dublin would most likely not be an issue with either once you have the dish and an aerial (including an indoor aerial).

This is a problem that I found wasn't addressed enough by the proper authorities, people who live in areas that can pick up the British signal should have been told that they wouldn't lose their English stations.

In answer to your question, your tv will pick up all the Irish tv and radio stations, both British and Irish if you live in an area that has the British signal. I bought a tv which was made in the UK and it works perfectly, you don't have to worry as long as your tv is digital ready

Incorrect. Digital Ready has nothing to do with the ability to receive a signal.

The UK and Ireland have different standards of broadcasting. You were just lucky that your TV worked.

Not all places receive UK terrestrial overspill, especially Dublin!

I had a look at the manual for your TV. I doubt that it will work for Saorview through the inbuilt digital tuner that your TV has- MPEG2 only video on the digital tuner, Saorview broadcast MPEG4 video which your tuner would not decode - you will most likely get sound but no picture. You will need a combo box for both. They can be bought in Ireland.

Yes to the second question. A combo box can be connected to your Logik TV using a HDMI cable which normally come with the combo box.

The ariva 250 has a universal remote, meaning it will control your Tv as well, so you dont have to have 2 remotes. Have a look at the large thread in this forum on it and make up your own mind.
