Pass C Theory Test - sit same again?

Has anybody here had to sit the C (rigid truck) theory test twice (i.e after passing it the first time and then going for category EC (artic truck)?

I passed my C Theory and Practical test in 2003 and took out my full C licence. I then took out a EC provisional, never used it, and it expired in 2005.

I recently decided to take EC lessons and went to get an EC Learner Permit. I was told in the motor tax office that I would have to sit another C theory test as my EC learner permit had expired for more that 5 years. I emailed the RSA and was told the same. (Interestingly, the lady in the tax office said if I had now being applying for my FIRST 'EC' learner permit I WOULD NOT have to do another theory test?? She said because I had effectively 'used up my theory test' I would not have to do another??). Suffice to say I wasnt in the best mood leaving the tax office that day!!

I subsequently booked my theory test and bought the new theory test book and CD to study.

I sat down tonight and on page 5 of the book it states -

"Note that you do not have to pass the same theory test more than once" ?????????????:mad:

Hmmm, Why they want you to repeat the same theory test again to renew your EC LP is a funny one alright. So my understanding is if you have a full B (Car) and take out a EB LP, let it lapse for 5 years then you have to do another Car theory test??!

Obviously if those clowns in the RSA/Motor Tax office are both in unision then you'll have to do it again I'm afraid
Just make sure that if you have to submit a new medical form with your application, ensure your GP ticks all the boxes to save you another visit!

I's baffling for me tbh??? I am being asked to sit the same 'C' Theory Test again...even though I passed it in 2003 and hold a full C licence?!

I phoned the RSA during the week and after a lenghty discussion I am still no further on....I have no choice but to re-sit the C theory test.

It just doesnt make sense. If a peson submits a medical cert - it remains valid for whatever period.
A theory test cert has NO expiry date afaik and yet I am being asked to submit another C cert in order to get my EC learner permit?!

A cynical person could suggest that it is nothing to do with driver safety/learning and just a 'money-making racket'!

If I was you in your shoes I would just get an application form for the provisional licence click on the artic licence and send it in,You mentioned that you got the C licence back in 2003 that means that you have grand father rights which means you don't have to sit any other theory test cpc b*ll*ogly.
As for a new medical that's a load of b*ll*x once your full licence is in date which also requires you to have a valid medical to obtain the licence you should not have to do a medical again.
To me it seems that the people you are dealing with are as useful as a chocolate tea pot.

Unfortunately they wouldnt process the form when I went into the tax office.
I dont have to do the CPC ('grandfather rights') plus I wont be driving for a living on my EC licence. As regards the theory test, I appear to have no choice but to do it again:rolleyes:
