USB to Serial Problem:(

Hey guys, just got USB to Serial cable (Prolific PL2303 XA/HXA Chip)
Installed on Windows 7, i have a console cable attached to reach Cisco gear.
I can see the Router/Switch booting up ok but i can't enter any commands to the console, tried Teraterm, putty etc...

Any other changes i could make to get this working, any help really appreciated...

You've got the wrong type of Console cable for the Cisco.

ah ok, cheers. thought as much, might try a PCMCIA to serial, think they're a bit more reliable

Cisco uses non standard console cables (same as Brocade)

Also the problem may be the usb to serial dongle you have. I use one of these (plus the correct console cable):

Its handy being able to connect to both supervisors on a switch while doing firmware upgrades or even while doing a system switchover
