So as some may remember I was looking at one of these for a while, but in Romania..anyway back in ireland soon so will get it here now.

Tested a 177hp tdi in town 2 weeks ago..verry nice..leather interior, automatic, gps, etc etc. 2012 model, was waiting on my contract so held off on it and now its gone...

So basically now I decided i want to go and get a 2012 model 177hp automatic diesel with leather interior and satnav..yes i know its crazy...but ye got to do it once i reckon..

That one i saw is sold and I dont see any others with anything like that spec in ireland..would it really be that difficult to bring one in from UK? There do seem to be a few of them with that spec and even with the VRT, still coming in cheaper.

just to add..i have tried cbg.ie, autotrader.ie,carzone.ie and beepbeep.ie....interfaces for refining a search leave a LOT to be desired...so unless i am missing a site will have to go down Uk route..

i know that its technically done that way but was under the impression from reading around they don't really bother with the extras normally?

I mean if I can find one in Ireland its handier. Am back home in 4 weeks so need to get one asap, daily scanning Irish sites and dealer sites to see if anything crops up. The dealer with the aforementioned car..now its a pity i didn't go for it...would have been parked up for 2 months but would have been waiting for me :D

Of course they are interested in extras as it means extra revenue for them. VRT on extras is calculated on cars upto 4 years old. So a 3 year old car with extras will have VRT calculated on the extras at 25% of the original cost of the extras. They can determin what factory extras were fitted by accessing a database using the car's VIN when you go to present the car at the NCT centre for VRT. Also the VRT bands and rates are changing in next month's budget and they are only going up.

in that case I will just have to keep an eye on the irish market more...

and that the Irish governments "welcome home" for me :P And a new budget also! Woo hoo!

I'd say you could be waiting a while, most of the Irish spec ones are poorly speced. Some of the A5s don't even have a multi-function steering wheel. This from a car that cost +€40k new.

Keep an eye out for a used UK spec model that has already been imported, the speedo will be in mph/kph and it will be higher spec.

Not always the case that they'll look at the extras and bump up the price. I brought in my 159 last February and they never looked at the car, VRT was within a few euros of the price quoted online. Having said that there were a couple of eastern European lads registering 5 series at the same time and that was getting a good look over.

Well I will keep loking in Uk for the moment so I guess also, if i get the right price it may be worth it anyway, as it seems to be ca40k for the full spec either way but more chance of getting it in uk. Im only looking at audi approved dealers so that should be a safer way to purchase anyway!

Why not tell an Audi dealer what you're after. They will have a fair idea of what will be due back to them or other Audi dealers in the coming months. They should be able to source what you are looking for.

UK A5 didn't get xenon lights with DRL as standard whereas Irish cars did. Tbh, I don't see that UK A5 have such great spec.

true mickdw..but there is quite a difference for what you get for the money in the way of extras there. The average a5 here is manual with half leather interior..and for some reason I really like the aesthetic of the centre console that comes on the cars with sat nav..its much more common in UK.
