My dad has a 32in Samsung full HD and since the old Aertel went off air he has no text at all on terrestrial tv. He could never get digital text even when it is "enabled" in the settings. When he presses text all he gets is the "blue" text menu but with NO writing at all. Tried a factory re-set and software updates, but still nothing. Same happens with text on BBC terrestrial channels, colour menu but no writing at all.....any help is appreciated.
p.s.-I have an older Samsung 32in Lcd and dont have any probs with text....

MHEG5. Among other things its a data system used for fancy text. Not all TV's have it. It is either in the software of the TV or it isnt.

Sometimes it is turned off by country setup depending on what country is selected at startup.

So........ return to factory settings in menu. In Country setup, choose UK. Should work then.

Your welcome. Only the Saorview certified TV's will have MHEG5 in the Ireland setup as its a requirement of the specification to get the Saorview certification.

So your dad's TV is obviously pre certification or not one of the Saorview certified range. That doesn't mean it wont do the basics. MHEG5 is a requirement of the UK Freeview spec, so it switches on the MHEG engine under that setup profile, and is only way to enable this function on TVs that behave this way.

I have a Samsung so it was the first thing I did myself. Only thing with the UK setup is that it puts the Saorview stations in the 800s, but you can rename the channel number under LCN in the menu.

Because it is a non compatible set that should not have been sold in Ireland. You are within your rights to return it to the supplier not for purpose.
