You're fit, but can't race for a while.
You've spent the whole summer focused on your training, now you can relax a bit, and look outward.
It's a great time to give blood. Call the IBTS, make sure you're eligible, and make an appointment today.

Actually i was thinking about this today. I'm just over my 90 days since last donation. When would it be safe to do so? I can't find anything on the website saying aganist donating post marathon.

I'm a little stiff but feel fine otherwise.

Best to give them a ring first, see if they have any guidelines about waiting a few days from the marathon.

I cant give blood for several reasons, but the fact I lived in the UK a number of years ago bans me from EVER giving blood is bonkers - some of their other exclusions are harsh IMHO, but I understand they have to be ultra careful.

    - some of their other exclusions are harsh
    apart from this one
1.a any one who knows or has ever come into contact with oisinn or kandikane or has used a pacers shower room after them is excluded for life from givin blood.

Donated the day after last year's race. Didn't mention it to them till I was sitting in the chair. The head nurse got very annoyed with me but they took the blood anyway. II felt fine but maybe the day after isn't ideal.

You might think its harsh, but when your face with the risk of a blood transfusion and its a tough decision to make, knowing these exclusions are there gives, makes it easier.

    Alot happened years ago.

Also once you are given blood you cant donate blood again

I'm going into city centre later so i'll knock in. Can't see why running yesterday would be an issue. Feel grand today. Even went for a 30min run this morning!

For platelets it's 2 weeks post marathon, might be the same for blood but probably best to give them a ring

Rang them there. Said to leave it a week or two!

Likely didn't want the hassel if you perhaps collapsed as you were going out the door

They're endlessly phoning me asking me to donate and I always give the excuse of the marathon.

Better get to it this week.

I'm an A plusser too...was 4 years since I donated and finally went into pelican house the other day. not a marathon runner but wanted to also encourage people to go while they're in peak condition but probably give yourself some time to get over the run before you go.

on the note about having lived in the UK...the main problem is if you had any dental work done while in the UK, as well as operations etc. as the UK didn't do sterilisation of equipment to the same degree as Ire which means you could be carrying something. It's annoying but at least you WANT to give blood. Of course, you could donate in the North I expect if it's playing on your mind.

I'm actually not sure if I can give blood now, must find out. Always meant to do it, platelets are a good thing to give aswell.
