Anyone ever play Bellewstown GC ? Played an open there yesterday for the first time. Greens were in great nick but the course was pretty murky . It has a great downhill Par 3 - 235 yards ( Hole 8) . Rough was very tough but may consider playing it again when the grounds not as soggy.

Was a little bit miffed when the owner tried to charge me €20 when it quoted €10 on line and then said it was €15 to play in the competition but other than that it was ok

    Dak.

It's a good course, some great holes mixed with a few non descript ones. It does get very wet in parts this time of year though.

Used to play there a good bit when living in the area. Great little track in terms of lay out but undone by the boggy ground. I don't ever remember leaving the place with clean shoes.

Interesting that you say the 8th was a par 3. They must have changed the course around because that hole you're talking about was originally the 17th. Long par 3 downhill with water left and trees at the back.

Ironically just in the door from a round there, tough tough going with the wind, slightly mushy underfoot but that's to be expected this time of year.

They reversed the nines a few years ago so you start going up the hill (with the old 10th)

Yea it plays long this time of year but the greens are the best I've played on in the last couple of months

Yeah I used to be a member there so Ive fond memories of the place :D
The course is always really mucky during the winter, and and supposedly more so over the last couple of weeks due to the amount of rain we've been getting, so it'd be similar enough to a lot other parkland courses.
The greens have improved immensely although they are generally flat albeit with plenty of hidden breaks.

The course can be a really tricky walk for most walkers. Of course, as a member, I got used to the trek and I always had a laugh at some of the visitors trying to make their way up the hills :pac:
The course layout itself is relatively simple - most holes run along side eachnother (eg. the 14th goes one way and the 15th runs the opposite way). It can be an easy enough driving course as there's only staked trees around however sometimes, (mostly due to lack of greenkeepers!), the rough grows up and it can be very easy to lose a ball in it. Some say the hole layouts can be quite bland but I disagree for the most part!

They did change the nines around a couple of years ago, and it's something I still don't agree with as the current 8th (a tricky downhill par-3) and 9th hole were exciting finishing holes. Now the current 17th and 18th are just boring and relatively simple.

Most people around the place are friendly. Those who work in the clubhouse, or maybe the cabin is a better name for it, are friendly, including the owner, although he tries as hard as he can to find money, which is understandable of course! Sometimes the course gets the odd new-comer green-fee golfer who can act a bit of an eejit but thats a rarity! :D

Good course and getting better was a member here until this year. The rough does get a bit wet in places but the fairways are always dry it is getting harder each year as the trees grow and the stakes come off them.
Greens have a super surface and are fast as well the breaks are small but hard to read.
All the par 4's play longer that there yardage and the par 3's shorter so it is a bit of a big hitters course. At 595 for full membership it is good value the reason i left was i live in Swords wanted somewhere i could nip out for 9 holes in the evening. The open every wednesday is work playing during the summer.

Fair dues to Teetimes .ie . They have given me a free 2 ball for Bellewstown due to error in on-line pricing !
