I don't know if I'm putting this in the right place but I was just wondering if anyone knew what airlines policies are on carrying hurls on as hand luggage? I'm getting my boyfriend one for xmas and he is flying back to Canada with it. If anyone could help it would be great.

As it could be used as a weapon it would not be permitted as hand luggage.

    +1
they dont allow sports bats of any kind as hand luggage anymore.

Maybe its incase you would use it to bash down the door to the cockpit which nowadays is locked.
Because theres no way you could use it as a threatening weapon in the cabin as theres no real space to swing it.

Anyhow, you'd need to check it in as luggage somehow or fit it in a bag (diagonally?)

I've done this before. You'll need to check them in, wrap some tape around them to keep them together. And depending on the airport, it will most likely come on the over-sized baggage belt where buggies, bikes, skis, etc come out.

Even that poster spoke of checking it it. The consensus on the thread is that it's a non runner as hand luggage.

If you were taking a hurley into Australia I think Customs will treat it with Radiation incase it introduces any wood borne diseases into the country.

I'd imagine this is becoming more widespread now with the current Ash tree crisis.

    This too shall pass.

It is standard practice with wood products into Australia anyway.
