If I was you I'd upgrade to a full frame camera.

You can get the 5D mk2 for relatively cheap (£1,499), although Canon have a new 6D coming out in Dec (£1,799) which is going to be aiming to be the entry level to full frame cameras seen as the 5Dmk3 is so frickin expensive (£2,199).

If money is really tight, I'd wait and see what the 6D does in terms of further reducing the price of the 5Dmk2.

It depends what you want to use it for. a 5D would fulfill most peoples needs. If you want video capability then a 5Dmk2 will do the job. If you want better ISO and faster focus speed with a few more MP(?) and better video capabilities then a 5D3 will do the job.

Just because a 5d1 or 5D2 aren't the newest cameras doesn't mean they aren't capable. I still use my Nikon D3 (I guess 5D2 equivelant?) and its 6 years old. For what and how I use it I've no need for now to upgrade to a 3Ds, 3Dx or 4D.

I would say go full frame. It's just an all round more enjoyabel experience. Bigger viewfinder, brighter viewfinder and nice to use. The only downside is lenses are more expensive and you may need to buy full frame compatable lenses for it.

7D is really capable though, like a crop sensor version of a 5D2 perhaps?

As Pete said, it depends on what you want to do with it. For great image quality and great low-light/ISO performance, go with full-frame. If you're shooting a lot of sports, I'd go with the 7D (faster frame rate, probably better focussing than the 5D).

I think you should wait till the 6D comes out and see the reviews of how much better the AF performance and ISO performance is in lowlight compared to the 5Dm2. I'm really itching to upgrade to FF and I think I might regret it later on, say, 3/4 years later, still holding a piece of tech from 2008. Now, one disadvantage of waiting instead of grabbing one of those great deals out there for a used 5Dm2 is - if the 6D doesn't fair so well in reviews... then the second-hand price would go back up... But for me personally, I'd still wait a bit, unless you're in a hurry/job requirement. :)

It depends on what lens you have.

If you have lots of ef-s lens then get a 7D if not then go full frame.
