kinda ridiculous pulling so many shows on such short notice, as if people arent gonna be bored enough now there wont be anything to watch also,

apparently it affected shows last night with safety announcements interrupting live programming, and live chats with the cast getting interrupted also,

but i suppose castle will get a nice bump seeing as Five-0 isnt airing :D

And your point being? Can they not switch to a different station or watch a DVD. Hurricane isn't going to last a week you know.

Thankfully it wasn't last night, all the good stuff is on Sundays, apart from SOA. :)

Whats the point of hundreds of channels, with dedicated ones for news and weather when they delay pre taped shows to give weather and news updates?

That's like saying that if there was a storm over here, the news should be on Dave (just so Fair City isn't cancelled). Doesn't make sense. :)

In a time of national emergency, people will turn to the main networks for the main news.

No, its like saying the news should be on BBC News, Sky News, Euronews, A dedicated Irish news channel if the was one etc. You know, channels with the word news in them. Plus the regular news bulletins on normal channels. Isnt there a station in America called the weather channel? That might be a good place for it.

If people die because they didn't manage to change the channel then its natural selection. :)

    Like "RTE News Now"?

Also, I'd wonder would it be because the storm is affecting areas where stuff is getting filmed?

Not everybody has cable or satellite. If a huge news event happened here you can bet your life that the main channels would be covering it too

And you can bet your life that most viewers would be tuned in watching it.

I think he's talking mainly about stuff thats pre recorded, months in advance

Can understand why they'd do it. Absolutely nothing wrong with the decision and if it even saves one life it's worth it. Much as is like to be able to wake up tomorrow and download a few shows waiting an extra week won't make much of a difference intje grand scheme of things.

Also what a lot of people forget is that when a storm of this magnitude hits there's a good chance power will go out so I'd anything cancelling the shows means that people won't miss a week.

They dont want their ratings affected either by chance of powercuts.

Wait till the fuss is over and then show them so advertisers can get their moneys worth.

Ratings factor into the decision but there's also the fact that a lot of people will throw on their preferred channel in times of disaster to get news updates. Think that most people suffering through the natural disaster occurring would rather switch on NBC and see news updates than the latest episode of 2 Broke Girls or Whitney repeats. And what's the point of airing new episodes when no one over there is interested in anything else beyond the fact that New York is beginning to resemble it's self from The Day After Tomorrow.

Thats part of the ratings. More people want to watch news coverage of "Sandy" than want to watch standard programming. CBS, NBC etc are still going to show ads during their news coverage

There's loads of factors, but it all boils down to what will get the networks the biggest share of the market and the biggest overall numbers

Thankfully TV networks aren't run to keep Irish people illegally downloading/streaming shows happy

They should just put up all the episodes straight away in a block for us them.:)

I thought they pulled stuff cause of ratings, with the East coast having some of the largest populated areas advertisers don't want to miss out on getting their products seen by people in New York, after all if their TV was out they wouldn't be able to see all the Sub-Way subs in Hawaii :)

Also, a lot of shows will keep an eye on "cousin recordings" as it helps drive their product placement costs up, there's usually a top 10 downloaded list of shows every year.

More pre-emptions for tonight and Thursday, ABC has no new shows for Thursday either due to the CMA. http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/10/nbc-pre-empetions-tonight-and-thursday.html

The viewers probably thought it was a news programme covering the effects of the power outages.
