If you haven't sat any test can you still get a learners permit renewed or do you start all over?
Also if you got your licence before the mandatory EDTs & then get a renewed permit do you have to do the lessons?
    Thanks.

AFAIK you don't have to have done a test to renew your learner permit. Think you have to between 2nd and 3rd, or at least applied for a test. EDT lessons will not be required as these are determined by date if issue of 1st learner permit ( before or after 4.04.11) the only way now you would have to do the EDT program would be if your permit was out of date for 5 years without being renewed in which case you would start from scratch again. Good luck.

This is dealt with in the FAQ's and resources, I was in a similar situation and I followed their adviced.

I'd gotten my learner permit pre EDT, renewed it once and it had then expired.

In order to get a 3rd provisional, I had to show evidence of booking a test. I didn't need to re-sit the theory test.

    hope you get sorted!

Ciara - as steve_r has already said, there's a FAQ thread on this forum with that information.

    3. My provisional licence or learner permit has expired or is about to expire. How do I renew it?

You may renew your provisional licence or learner permit at any time before it expires, or up to five years after it expires. If applying for your second learner permit, you must provide the following to your Motor Tax Office:
A completed learner permit application form
Your most recent provisional licence or learner permit
Two identical passport-sized photographs, both signed on the back
    The application fee
If applying for your third or subsequent learner permit, you must, in addition to the above, provide either (a) a Certificate of Failure showing that you sat the driving test within the previous two years, in which case your learner permit will be renewed for two years; or (b) a confirmation or appointment letter from the RSA showing that you have applied to sit the driving test, in which case your learner permit will be renewed for one year.

If your provisional licence or learner permit has been expired for longer than five years, you cannot renew it. You will be treated as a first-time applicant, meaning that you have to begin the process anew with the theory test.

Was wondering about this myself, but no, if it's your second learner permit, you just submit form D201 and your licence that's going to expire.

I know if it's a 3rd or later, you have to submit a failed driver test sheet.

You don't have to do the 12 lessons if you got your first permit before the date they came in!

Hard to find on the RSA site, just google your local county/city council and the words learner permit :)
