Hi, i was just having a look through a few films to watch this afternoon, and it struck me that a few of them are actually themed on post-apocalyptic nuclear war.

A few films that came to mind are:

    Planet of the Apes
    Terminator
    Mad Max

Im sure you could through in a few Bond films also.

    any other films worth mentioning?

    Planet of the Apes

Not so sure about that. Although I haven't seen the entire original series so could be wrong.

Probably more dystopian future than anything but ones that spring to my mind:

    The Matrix

    1984

    V For Vendetta

    Escape From New York

    I Am Legend

    28 Days Later

    Sin City

    Logan's Run

    Blade Runner

I don't think the Road counts, because it's not really said how their world ended - I think it was hinted that it was catastrophic climate change.

    Dr. Strangelove
Probably the definitive Cold War satirism.

One of the most chilling movies ever made full stop! Should be mandatory viewing in schools.

I've been meaning to watch 'Threads' for a long time and I watched it online this evening.

Astonishing. Gripping. Jaw Dropping. You name it.

I simply can't believe that would have ever been allowed screen on British tv.

Essential to watch, not just for post-apocalyptic genre fans, but for anybody with the slightest interest in film.

Threads and The Day After are two of the most disturbing things I have watched. Reagan and his staff were apparently visibly shocked by The Day After. Threads hit home more as it just makes you think if that's what happened Britain, what would become of us.
