Casual Work & Dole

Interesting article in the Independent today...

We're very people affected by this. We want to work. But the system does not make it easy for us to return to the dole when the contract ends. Every single time, the claim's closed, even though we've told Welfare when the contract begins and ends, and every single time it's taken at least three months to restore our benefits. We have to go through the rigmarole of going to the office to re-start the claim, supply paperwork that has already been submitted, go to the CWO for restoration of the RA, and to get SWA whilst the fresh claim is considered. And even then, the payments are screwed up.

The latest one being my payment being stopped as Welfare were under the (mistaken) impression that my husband was working in permanent employment, even though we'd visited the Welfare office in person, handed over the letter stating the contract was temporary, sent in the payslips, and told them in writing when the contract ended. They STILL stopped my money!!

It's now got to the point where we can't consider temp work as it's too much grief to get payments re-started. Are the Government serious about getting people back to work, even though it might only be for a while? The systems seem to say it's not...

Yup! Once one is successful in getting a claim, stay stum.

I'm stuck myself, can't accept work for this reason and yet SW can't last forever.

The state benefits forum is not for discussing dept/gov policy.Perhaps the economics/ politics forum would be the place for this discussion.
