Apple and rice pudding?

Hey all, I'm in the mood for comfort food!

When I was a kid, my great aunt would make a pudding with stewed apples and (I think) ambrosia.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? And if it does, how do you make it?

    Thanks,

    Pappa

Yes, my nana made something similar in a big pyrex dish apple, rice and topped with meringue, it would be cooking apples stewed with sugar, the rice would be made from pudding rice (not out of a tin) and topped with meringue and baked, not sure for how long but probably just to cook the meringue. I remember the meringue would be soft and sticky not crisp. Served with pouring cream.
