I am looking at somewhere cheap for skiing. Think Paz del la casa or soll. Any other ideas? Looking at directski.ie or Crystal ski. Looks like mid jan or mid feb are the cheapest times.

Anyone know if soll would have snow in the village at that time of year and can you ski into the village?

A quick google will let you know if you can ski into the town As for cheap crystal or any package deal it wont be cheap. Mid feb is half term the most expensive time. Mid jan to end of jan will be cheaper it depends how many are going if your going on your own maybe start a thread to get a few going together. Higher resorts ski into april and they would be cheap the weeks before easter.

Have a look at independant options flight to Munich and drive to Soll, some of the hotels were. Doing great independant deals last year.

Will there be snow in the village probably but mother nature decides that. If you want snow sure villages you need to. Go 1,200 meters + and there is always a premium for that.

Direct ski is about the cheapest of the TO Operators especially last minute

You cannot ski to/from Soll village.
Lifts are a short busride away or approx 10 mins walk.

My advice is stay away from andora and proably soll ,The ski area is huge but soll aint nothing special a few people i know that have skied for years said soll is a poor mans Mayrhofen and andora is a plae u will only go to once and forget about it.Its very hard to beat any of the austrian resorts my preference ould be Mayrhofen kitzbuhell or sallbach if cost is an issuw but f u want to shove the boat out itll be hard to beat st anton.Ischgl or solden

Would there be snow in the village at that time of the year? Or is it hit and miss. We were in andora last year and it was good, not as much snow as we would have liked but it was good craic as it was our first time.

Read this article the other day about dirt cheap skiing in the Czech Republic. Might be of interest to you OP:

For a cheap holiday its going to be hard to beat this

    http://www.snowboxx.com/

199euros gets you your accomodation, lift pass and access to the gigs.
The disadvantage would be overrowded slopes but I'm sure you could bus it to pas de la cas for a day to get away from the crowd

Can anyone explain how if I go with direct ski I can get rental, lift passes and lessons for EUR 212.00 in Sol. If I try to book it myself the cheapest lift pass I can see is about €200. So add lessons and rental and it would be double that. Do the likes of direct ski get massive discounts on lift passes?

I dont see how it would be cheaper to book yourself...

I'd say you're misreading that price. The advertising is often (deliberately?) misleading. A liftpass alone will cost approx €200 as you stated.

Nope but TO will take a hit elsewhere and apply the discount tithe pass, for areas like the skiwear they may only give you a pass covering Soll instead of the wider area.

Also they are occasionally given transferable season passes that these as a honey trap for people booking

Hard to tell from what you've stated but that price could also be for the beginners package. The beginners package tends not to have a lift pass for 6 days. They count on complete beginners not using any of the lifts for a day or two so the package includes only 4-5 days of lift pass. Also have a look at the dates the deal is for. Perhaps it's for off peak times when the lift passes can be cheaper. If you change the date to peak time the price may increase to 300e+

The only way I have ever got a discount DIY is to look at some shops (intersport etc) which do a lift pass + gear rental deal. Even then you might only save 5% of the price. I e-mailed the schools before in the resort I was going to and asked for the best price they could give me on the group going and got a very small discount from lessons that way.

6 day lessons are in the region or 180 euros if you pre book skis you can get up 15% off at off peak times. I know intersport in Austria will give the whole family skis and boots when the adults rent maybe they have an agreement with direct ski on the basis that if they can rent a certain number they get 50% off. I have done the night skiing in Gaisberg and when 10 or more booked we got a substantial discount around 60% I think.

Its sat to sat accomadation flying in is no problem you lose a day but you have no where to stay on the other saturday night. And you will have to pay for the full week in the resort.

Also great trick for Transfers to save cost is at the resort just fine a rep that will take a 25 Euro bribe to allow you hop on their transfer to your resort.

Hi, ive skiied in Soll on three occasions, all new years week. Ive skiied alot of places and Soll tops if your a beginner but mainly its great apres. You can drink every night till 4 am "if" thats what you want!! We loved it, its great for beginners, but sadly you cant ski into the main village but its only a few mins walk, theres buses but we never bothered. Very reasonable prices, one or two really amazing organic resturants up the slopes.
The tirol region is great because you really can ski for miles and miles, just be careful to watch the gate closing times or ya could end up stuck on the mountain, its happened us once, some laugh! But hey skiing not for boring type!! Happy snow guys

We went to Soll last year for the last week of Feb. Still lots of snow and weather was beautiful - warm and sunny.

We flew in and out of Salzburg and hired a mini bus for the transfers which I think worked out at about €20 a head each way.

We stayed in an apartment that was about 20 mins walk from the village and cost €1,000 for six of us for the week so very good value and the walk was a good way to warm up the legs in the mornings!

We had a great week - lots of great runs for intermediate skiiers across the Skiwelt, plenty of variety and decent enough night life.

Flying into Budapest in mid-Feb for cheap & then getting the train to Jasna in Slovakia. The week including everything (flights, passes, accom, food & drink) is only going to set us back around 450...

That's very cheap. What's the place like for skiing?

We're staying 20 minutes (15 by car) from the Jasna resort, in the town of Liptovsky Mikulas (which is connected to the resort by regular buses, has generally the better apres ski & is easily accessible by train from Bratislava/Budapest). I booked a 4 person suite for the week in a B&B called Penzion Manderlak, for less than 80 Euro a head. However if you want to book in the resort itself, it still won't break the bank.

It’s the largest Non-Alpine ski resort in central Europe. It offers great conditions for skiing in winter (29 lifts, 45 km km of slopes, 5 freeride zones & a snow park), and it's highest peak is the Chopok (at a respectable 2025m). A 6 day pass will set you back 170 E. There's plenty of other things to do other than skiing; access to the local water park/thermal springs (included free with your ski pass), skating rinks, indoor go karting & pints rarely cost much more than a euro! It's a Mecca for skiiers & boarders on a tight budget!

Just updating this, we went to Slovakia and had a fantastic trip.
the snowboarding was great and the booze was cheap.
We went with Propeganda, They were cool but I think if I was going again I would go it alone.
We found a bar where Beer was 80c and vodka was 50c.It did have hardcore porn on the TV but apart from that it was a bit of a laugh.
I think Ill definetly go back at some stage

Try Garmish-Partenkirchen - Fly Ryanair to Memmingen and get the train down. We are just back and found it really cheap - a beer is about EUR3 -3.50. Skiing was a bit icy when we were there but they have had good snowfall since (typical !!). Let me know if you want any details re passes or trains.
