Ferroli Tempra 24 gas burner Problem

    Hi

I have the above burner but lately it seems to be acting up. The heating seems to be very weak when it is turned on and has the following problems:
    1. flame ignites for a few seconds then extinguishes again, ignites again after a few seconds then extinguishes and so on.
    2. The pressure gauge is at zero when the boiler is turned off and then slowly rises above 1bar (?) after a few minutes operation.
    3. There is a slight hissing noise coming from somewhere when the boiler is turned on.

There is some heat being produced even though the stop start cycle is happening. The boiler has been fairly well serviced over the years (approx 7 years old now). Any suggestions.

I spoke to a plumber I had look at it in June and he has suggested that the burner chamber gasket might need changing or the flue kit needs replacing but he cannot get to look at it till next week. I rang the local buildiers suppliers to see about ordering the parts but they requested part numbers but Im not sure how to get these numbers.

Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated.

    Sounds like a circulation issue.
Possibly a faulty circulating pump, blockage in the heating system or the dreaded blocked heat exchanger (very expensive for a ferroli unfortunately)

It needs to be narrowed down before ordering any parts

For a start, the water pressure should be above 1 bar when Cold.
Before doing anything get the pressure up over a bar and see if that makes a difference.

The noise you are hearing is most likely from the heat exchanger with too low a water volume / pressure.

Also the rise in pressure from 0 - 1 when running would indicate that your expansion vessel may need to be re-pressurised.

Possibly no parts needed, just a good service. Make sure who looks at it is RGI and is familiar with Ferroli boilers.

thanks for the info. Will get it checked out before ordering any parts. Anyone know an RGI in the Galway City area?

    Cheers.

Try www.rgii.ie/ or ask in your local Plumbing Supplies centre who they might recommend.

    Hi Again

Can anyone give me ballpark figures for how much it would cost to replace the boiler and how long this work should take? The heat is not working at all now seemingly and the tenants are getting irate (rightly so!). I hope replacing the boiler will solve all issues as there have been quite a few over the last couple of years. Please see below comments form the plumber I had look at it - obviously I do not want further porblems so feel repolacement will be the correct way forward.

I had a look at the boiler last nite, on inspection I found that there was no pressure in the expansion vessel and the valve was discharging water, which suggests the diaphragm is split inside the vessel. The selector knob is also broken off which prevents the boiler from being reset.

On speaking to the girls in the house they said the boiler had being operating like this for over a year, which could have knock on effects to other parts, by replacing the vessel there is no assurance the boiler will operate as it should, the vessel could only be the start of the problem.

    Thanks

If it's being operated like this for some time then more than likely there is knock on effects.

If you are changing the boiler the heating system should be chemically flushed prior to the new boiler being installed. This process takes roughly a day for a standard house then a day to install the new boiler. Two day's in total. Proper prices start from €1800 upwards depending on the boiler selected.

Make sure you get a receipt and a numbet 2 cert with a combustion print out on completion.

I have a Ferroli Tempra 21kw boiler, and the problem is to turn on the boiler does not ignite burners, while a spark ignites a small fire but no fire continues at full burner. Maybe someone knows the problem?

      Thanks for the help

From what you have described you will need a Registered Gas Installer who is familiar with fault finding on that model to take a look at it for you.

Any uppdate on your Ferroli @ZiggyZ ? It looks to me like water temperature sensor broken but may be gas valve issue so I ask.
