Remote sensor issue, options?

    Here's the TV:

    http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?slg=en&scy=us&ctn=32PFL5403D/F7

Remote has never worked but we didn't worry about it until I went to tune in the new channels this morning.

I've been trouble shooting it and remote is working (used digital camera to test). So from what I've been reading I would guess that there is an issue with the remote sensor.

I know very little about these things but I could guess that repair would be costly.

Anyone have any experience of this sort of issue, know the different parts that could be involved?

I'm in rented accommodation so have contacted landlord to get warranty details etc to contact Philips but I'd guess the TV is old enough so could be well out of warranty at this stage. I found a tread on the Limerick forum with local repairmen but wanted to research a bit more first.

Any advice or direction would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Whose TV is this, yours or your landlords? If it is his it is up to him to fix or replace it. Are you sure you have the right remote, check that online manual?

It's the landlords, doesn't stop me from being proactive though, and it's the correct remote. downloaded the manual etc already and have tried a universal philips remote (housemates have another philips tv). I'm not concerned about the fix etc as I know he'll sort it but wanted to be able to help sort the problem

    thank you
