    if going to look at buying a second hand trailer is there a good way of checking the trailer has the brakes done or is hooking it up and trying them out the only way should all 4 wheels skid when u brake hard

    Well, when you hook up to your jeep, you should not be able to reverse the trailer more than a foot, before the 4 wheels lock. Iver in Cavan

    Firstly check if the brakes work when the handbrake is applied. You can then also remove the drum to check the condition of the shoes. Secondly when check that when you brake while driving that you don't feel a slap in the rear, it should brake smoothly.The methods already mentioned might not be that effective if the adjustment is off or the damper is gone.
