Hope it doesn't turn out too serious.

What with the hurricane due on the east cost, and now this off the west coast, the USA is getting its fair share of natural events!
A 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit the west coast of Canada has sparked a tsunami warning for Hawaii, thousands of miles to the west.

Emergency sirens sounded late on Saturday to alert residents around the islands that make up Hawaii.

Wave heights of three to six feet were predicted in some areas, as "urgent action" was advised to protect lives.

There were no immediate reports of damage on the Canadian coast following the earthquake.

Tsunami alerts that were issued for coastal areas of Alaska and British Columbia were swiftly downgraded.

The quake hit 125 miles (200km) south-west of the Canadian mining town of Prince Rupert at a depth of 11 miles (18km), said the US Geological Survey.

Initially, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said it did not expect a threat beyond the immediate area.

But later it said: "A tsunami has been generated that could cause damage along the coastline of all islands in the state of Hawaii."

It said the first tsunami wave could hit the archipelago by about 22:30 local (08:30GMT).

Hope the casualties and the destruction are to the minimum.

So we have gone from life threatening tsunami to excellent surfing conditions?

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Lahinch regularly get bigger waves than that on a normal day for surfers?

It's not like a wave, more like a temporary rise in local sea level. A wall of water 3-6 foot high.

Sounds like a wave to me

If you think of a 6 foot wave rolling into Lahinch - happy surfers. If you think of a 'box' of water, 6 foot high and 30 seconds deep sitting on top of normal water level. When it comes rolling in the surfers get washed away. The volume of water is much greater.

You just know there'll be some bat**** crazy surfer who would still see a life threatening tsunami as excellent surfing conditions.

    Fúckers are probably chasing it.

Look out my window some mornings and it's so bad i can barely get for a bucket of turf (serious Culchie talk), taste the salt on the air the wind has it whipped up so hard. These cúnts are togging out and mcLovin it.

Then ya watch the mad bastids bobbin' up and down in it like tea bags in a stirred pot. Savage, i'd love to find balls like that (not washed though :D)

I thought I heard the Irish Tsunami alarm go off this morning but wasn't sure what it sounds like so went back to sleep cock in hand.

I waved (a big one) out of the car window whilst passing through Lahinch, 'Dueling Banjos' was blaring on my radio.
If your're looking for a beautiful seaside location with a multiplicity of attractive features, look no further than picturesque Kilmuckridge, plenty of people - mostly from Dublin - make waves there every summer.

A tsunami wave is different to normal waves.. It's 6 feet tall but really long as TherapyBoy said.
