Poor heat from heater

    Last few days i've noticed there is little or no heat coming from the heater of my van. Poor today on the motorway coming from cork to dublin. Slightly, but not much better when sitting in traffic and at lower speeds.

    Any ideas as to what the problem could be? Cheers.

    From my limited experience of heating problems it could be;

    Heater matrix
    Coolant problem
    Thermostat stuck
    Airlock
    Cable controlling heater flaps obstructed

    Are you low on coolant? Easiest thing to check first.

    Coolant level seems ok....no overheating problems at all...van is going well.

    Is the temp gauge going down on the motorway?

    Is the temp gauge at it's normal position?

    I'd a thermostat fail but the temp gauge dropped like a stone on the motorway, and the heat output from the heaters was poor.

    Temperature gauage is at it's normal position alright. Hope it's a cheap fix coming into the winter!!

    thermostat plug failed closed. no hot water going to the radiator/cabin heater would be my guess, but then I would also have expected the engine to overheat then.

    maybe being a bigish engine it holds enough coolant to reach a steady state, but thats probably wrong
