Insurance for small van.

Hi guys.
Mate from work seems to be getting the run around from a number of companys. He been driving many years. Has 8 to 9 years no claims.he taken up fishing big time. So needs a small van or jeep. So he called his own insurance company. They tell him as he not a bussiness owner or the like . They cant insure him. Others have given quotes between 500 to 1200euro. But say the same might not be able to cover him as he not a reg bussiness owner. Can any one shed a bit of light on this.

Tried this site. Looking for a trade name. Van will be for private use.

I insured my jeep with them are they just looking for a trade name or a VAT number.

If they just want a trade name give them any old name.

If it's a carvan FBD will only give you Private insurance on it so you could give them a call. At least they'll quote you. InsureMyVan are cheap to get quotes off but terrible to deal with in my experience.

Why did you find them terrible I've had no bother with them although they aren't the fastest at getting out your insurance cert that's one thing I've noticed and I've 3 policies with them.

They're cheap though so worth the wait

If you have to deal with them in any way once you have the policy or query a policy you'll be waiting a LONG time for any response from them. Also only available Mon to Fri 9 - 5 so not great for breakdown recovery or broken glass. Currently waiting over 6 weeks on an answer to a question I called them with. In saying that I to am with them 3 years based on price.

I've found them fairly good usually get Email responses within 48hrs and always get someone on the hone. It always helps to remember who you're dealing with so you can ask for the same person by name.

leeomurchu - Thanks for mentioning and recommending us but unfortunatly we cant give discounts for recommending us, but we certainly will give you a loyalty discount with the renewal, and for having the 3 vans with us. Thanks again

Hi Fleetman,Just changed cover to Insuremyvan, happy with price but problem with documentation.

The Statement of Fact was incorrect no claims step back was missing from document as in instructions I signed and corrected document and returned it to be amended.

Several emails later a scanned PDF document was emailed but with no policy number just“TBA” and the document is poor quality has two black lines running top to bottom.

I would appreciate a replacement Statement of Fact supplied and policy booklet if one exists with phone numbers for windscreen cover etc.

i got private insurance on a small van through britton insurance who got me a policy with setanta very reasonable too, with all the usual covered

Try devilquote.ie aswell.

I changed from insuremyvan to devilquote as they were able to get a much cheaper quote for me.
